BRAKPAN RESIDENTS WELCOME THE RE-OPENING OF JAN SMUTS PARK

Executive Mayor Alderman Tania Campbell officially opened the gates to Jan Smuts Park in Brakpan on Wednesday, 15 June 2022 to hand it back to the community following two years of extensive renovations.

Residents of Brakpan braved the cold weather and came to witness the re-opening of the multi-million rand facility, situated next to the Brakpan Customer Care centre. The park overlooks the Jan Smuts dam and it boasts amenities such as the gym area, play equipment, wall climbing, rubberized floor surfaces and paved pathways.
Sanele Mabhena a resident at Escormb Street, opposite the Jan Smuts Park says” I’m glad that the park is open again, now I will be able to take my children for a walk in a secured place with all the fun play equipment”.

During the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Alderman Campbell expressed her gratitude to the city’s officials who tirelessly worked to see the renovation works until completion and pleaded with the community of Brakpan to protect the park against vandalism to enjoy it for a longer period.

“I’m pleased to officially hand this park back to the community of Brakpan after a long period of closure due to the renovations that were ongoing here. I now plead with you residents of Brakpan to enjoy all the amenities that are here and please protect it from all acts of criminality, ” said Executive Mayor Alderman Tania Campbell.

In addition, the City is currently working hard to remove the hyacinth covering the Jan Smuts dam to allow for recreational activities to take place
