Four Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) subsections of emergency services urban search and rescue (USAR) personnel from the City of Ekurhuleni are putting their skills into practice with the other rescue team members across the country for the disaster-stricken province of Kwa-Zulu Natal (KZN).
Station Manager Bafana Masilela, Shift manager Pusetso Mosia, firefighter Sithembiso Khoza and firefighter Ngwasheng Choene are some of the contingency of rescuers within the City trained in the specialised field in preparation of future global catastrophes caused by either natural or man main. Their training skills in swift water, confined space, wilderness, structural, trench and high angle rope rescues are being put into exercise.
The City is proud of its officials for making a significant contribution to the disaster-stricken province of Kwa-Zulu Natal. The four rescuers formed part of the team sent down to KZN by the provincial government of Gauteng.
The city of Ekurhuleni emergency services is at the forefront when it comes to USAR specialisation. The course modules are acquired in the DEMS training academy based in Boksburg fire station known as Leon Ferreira. Previously the City`s rescuers participated in various local and international rescue missions involving earthquakes, Tsunami and floods.
