On Saturday 11 March 2023, between 09:00 and 11:00, members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) based in Bracken downs police station, Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) Social Crime Prevention Unit Officers, and Bracken downs community members held a more than five (5) kilometre fun walk to raise awareness about Gender-Based Violence in the Bracken downs area.
This was a 5.5-kilometre walk that began at the Bracken Downs police station and ended at the Jackson Dam in Meyersdal. Fox Security, Community Policing Forum (CPF) members, and children from various schools in the area also participated in the fun walk.
The goal was to raise awareness about gender-based violence and to remind community members not to remain silent or turn a blind eye when someone is being abused, and that members of the community and victims must speak up.
