The DA congratulates matric learners who took the IEB National Senior Certificate exams, achieving an impressive 98.46% pass rate. Despite facing challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic, these learners, who began their grade 10 year, should take pride in their accomplishments.
In 2023, 15,180 candidates wrote the IEB exam, with 88.59% securing a Bachelor’s degree pass. We extend our best wishes to these matriculants for their bright futures.
However, many public schools in South Africa face challenges like overcrowding, unsafe infrastructure, 3,932 pit toilets, a shortage of STEM subject teachers, and overall poor educational quality. The 2022 matric pass rate of 54.6%, coupled with low literacy and math rates, highlights the need for improvement.
The DA calls for a thorough investigation into continuous assessments to address matric outcome issues. We also reiterate our plea for an independent school monitoring evaluation authority to ensure all learners receive the quality education they deserve.
We wish the NSC matriculants success with their results.
