On Saturday, 20 August 2022, Daveyton’s Mall centre management and the Gauteng Handball Association held an award ceremony for the gold winners of the U20 Women’s Handball championship that was held in Cape Town from the 5th till the 7th of August 2022.
The centre’s manager, Vusi Ndlovu mentioned that as they regard Daveyton Mall as the heart of Daveyton they saw it fit to celebrate the win of the Daveytonians by catering for them on their auspicious day.
“We are here today because of the hard work you have put in as Team Gauteng. You played with your heart and soul in the games and made sure that you bring it home,” said Ndlovu.
“I am very happy with these kids, they have played wholeheartedly and put all their efforts into the games, it was so therapeutic to see them play like that. I am speechless, but what I can say is that keep it up and this is only the start for us,” said the general secretary of the Gauteng Handball Association.
Assistant coach of Team Gauteng, Brian Mdhlalose mentioned that it wasn’t an easy journey in making sure that all demands are met for the trip. With the two months they had for training they made sure that they work hard.
“We are here today in celebration of the team and with what we have achieved, I can proudly say we are the best team in South Africa. We thank you for the support we have received and the support that we are still receiving,” he said.
With a closing statement, Nsizwa Mahlangu the chairperson of the association said they are fortunate enough to be part of the winning team.
“From now on we mean business, we can see that our sport is growing, and we wish we can get all the support we need in making sure that we go places with these children. These certificates we are giving out today are a token of appreciation for the hard and determination of the players,” he ended.
