A dilapidated bus terminus in Alberton will be demolished.
This follows a visit by Ekurhuleni Executive Mayor Ald Tania Campbell and MMC for Transport Planning Cllr Alco Ngobese on Friday, 3 June, during a Back to Basics service delivery visit.
“The purpose was to determine the state of the dilapidated bus terminus that has become a centre of informal waste recycling and a habitat for homeless people. In addition, it was becoming a breeding ground for criminal activities and an eyesore.
“We therefore had to demolish it to respond to the safety concerns of the residents and business community, and because it was no longer usable due to its structural damage,” MMC Ngobese said.
Bus operations conducted at the terminus will continue uninterrupted after consultation with the company that uses a portion of the site as a loading zone for passengers.
