54-year old Germina Mokoena from Palmridge, Katlehong is asking for assistance, to have a home that caters to her disability.
Mokoena was born with non-functional legs, forcing her to crawl or move around using a wheelchair, which unfortunately is currently broken.
She was recently moved into a new home which was supposed to make life easier for her but it has become even more difficult.
The toilet, shower sit, kitchen sink, and the furniture is very high for her and she has difficulties in using it.
Mokoena lives with her daughter who has two kids, who also is unable to look for a job because she has to take care of her, forcing them to live off social grants.
Mokoena’s daughter Mpho Mokoena says sometimes it’s hard because they are forced to leave her mother alone and with everything not easily accessible to her, she has to wait until they come back because she might get hurt trying to do things herself.
Taxis are also a problem because they are far from their home and now that Mokoena has no functioning wheelchair, it is very hard to take her for her clinic checkups.
They are asking to be assisted with a:
-Well-functioning wheelchair
– Low toilet, sink, and shower sit
– Essential furniture that caters to her disability.
– Good floor, because since it’s going to be cold, the floor gets cold for her crawling.
Mpho said: “I’m grateful for our new home and I don’t mean to ask for too much but we would really appreciate any help that would make my life and my mother’s life easier.”
“We have to live off her disability grant and it is not enough for us to build a home that is well equipped for her so that I also can go out and look for a job,” she added.
