The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) would like to inform social grant beneficiaries about additional options available for receiving their payments, in addition to the Postbank.
Beneficiaries have the following options:
- Personal Bank Account: You can choose to use your existing personal bank account for receiving your social grant. If you don’t have an account, you can open one with a bank of your choice. To do this, you will need to provide your 13-digit identity document, official proof from the bank confirming that the account is in your name, and complete a SASSA consent form to authorize the payment of your social grant into your personal bank account. Please ensure that your contact details on the consent form are accurate and up-to-date in case SASSA needs to contact you.
- Handling Previous Card Balances: If there are funds remaining on your previous payment card, please withdraw that money. Only the grant amount for the upcoming month will be deposited into your new bank account. It’s advisable not to discard the old card until the new payment is confirmed.
- Change of Payment Method Across Provinces: If you are requesting a change of payment method from another province, please be aware that this process involves transferring your details from one province to another, which may cause some delays. If your initial grant application was not made at a Gauteng office, kindly provide us with your correct contact details.
Important Payment Date Information:
- Old Age Grants will be paid on Tuesday, 03 October 2023.
- Disability Grants will be paid on Wednesday, 04 October 2023.
- Children’s grants will be paid from Thursday, 05 October 2023.
Social Grant Increases for October 2023:
- Older Persons Grant: Increased to R2090 on 1 October 2023 for recipients aged between 60 and 74 years old, and R2110 for recipients over 75 years old.
- Disability Grant: Increased to R2090 on 1 October 2023.
- Child Support Grant: Increased to R510 on 1 October 2023.
- Child Support Grant Top-Up: Remains at R250 on 1 October 2023 (no increase).
- Foster Child Grant: Increased to R1130 on 1 October 2023.
- Care Dependency Grant: Increased to R2090 on 1 October 2023.
- War Veterans Grant: Increased to R2110 on 1 October 2023.
- Grant-In-Aid: Increased to R510 on 1 October 2023.
