Drug awareness road-show

The Social crime prevention/Communications, Vispol members, Dog Unit, VFR, Cpf, Patrollers, Social Development (DSD), Gauteng Mental health, SANCA, Ekurhuleni social worker (EMM), Etuka, and Sabiba held a crime awareness road-show to address drug usage in the area on Friday, March 25, 2022.

Daveyton CIC identified hotspots and scenes of crime according to crime patterns. The Road-Show was conducted in a convoy where all the stakeholders stopped at identified areas where the youth gather and smoke drugs.

They conducted one on one engagements, gave out pamphlets on substance abuse, GBV, and VFR information.

SANCA secretary, Elgin Lekoape had a heartfelt session with a group of youngsters where he encouraged the individuals to do better and shared the process that one should take when ready to quit drugs.

“We are here for you young people, to create a positive relationship with you. We are planning on a big event where we are going to dwell on substance abuse and get to know some of the triggers,” he said.

Victims of substance abuse were very happy to engage with the police. Some mentioned their willingness to change because they felt the love.

06 x addresses (drug houses) were given to the police, 30 who showed a positive response of wanting to change, and people reached were 199 and pamphlets distributed we +-3000.

Daveyton acting Station Commander, Lt Col Teboho Sekharume is asking the community members to work together with the police in reporting drug dealers in order to save the future generation.
