Ekurhuleni installs backup generators, ensuring uninterrupted water

The City of Ekurhuleni’s MMC for Water, Sanitation, and Energy, Cllr Thembi Msane, switched on backup generators at 21 water sites like reservoirs and pump stations on Tuesday, 27 February. Some of these sites include Sunward Park, Tsakani, and Germiston.

These generators will make sure there’s water even when there’s loadshedding or power cuts. They can run for 11 hours on their fuel tanks. This will help a lot of people, especially those in Tsakani, where they often had no water during loadshedding because it’s a high-lying area that relies on electricity-run pump stations.

MMC Msane proudly said, “Now, water shortages will be a thing of the past.” She also mentioned that they’ll have teams checking the towers and stations all day, every day.

Tshepang Mnisi from Tsakani thanked the city for their hard work. “Having water all the time keeps us healthy and dignified. We’re really grateful that the city listened to us,” Mnisi said.
