On Saturday 14 January 2023 at 08:00, the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) Northern Region Social Crime Prevention Unit officers, conducted an operation aimed at road safety awareness, as part of their Back to School campaign, at a taxi rank in Thembisa area.
The objective of the operation was to ensure compliance with the National Road Traffic Act (Act 93 of 1996), checking for vehicle and driver fitness, valid vehicle licencing, overloading as well as valid permits. The EMPD officers, also explained various measures drivers can take, to reduce accidents/crashes on the roads, by adhering to the rules and regulations of the road.
Furthermore, the Officers went to a park in the Temong section, to educate the children about the importance of safety, as well as reporting acts of bullying, child neglect and abuse, as they return to school.
This is an ongoing operation and it is performed, at all regions in the City of Ekurhuleni.
