EMPD Monitors Peaceful Demo in Kempton

On Wednesday, 24 January 2024, between 14h00 and 15h00, officers from the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Edleen Precinct, along with the South African Police Service (SAPS) and other law enforcement agencies, including local private security companies, responded to a reported picketing at the Spartan industrial site.

Upon arrival, the main entrances of two (2) well-known companies, situated on Andre Gryvenstein Road, were obstructed by a group of sixty (60) aggrieved participants. They were chanting, demonstrating, and singing struggle songs. The reason for their picketing remains unclear at this stage. Although the march was nonviolent, crowd management/control methods were applied. Before long, the cooperative crowd dispersed peacefully, with no arrests made or casualties reported. However, we will continue to monitor the situation closely.
