In a swift and strategic operation on Thursday, January 4, 2024, at 19h15, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department’s (EMPD) Community Liaison Unit (CLU), Eastern Region Task Team, and Kwa-Thema precinct Officers successfully recovered two reported hijacked vehicles – a white Mercedes Benz and a white Toyota Yaris. The scene unfolded near Pholosong Region Hospital, situated in the heart of the Tsakane area.
The breakthrough came as a result of a timely tip-off received via the crime prevention WhatsApp group. The intelligence-driven response led the EMPD officers to the vicinity of Pholosong Regional Hospital, where the wanted Mercedes was found parked. A meticulous search of the abandoned Mercedes Benz ensued, revealing crucial evidence.
Remarkably, in close proximity, officers identified a suspicious white Toyota Yaris occupied by four males. As officers approached, the occupants hastily exited the vehicle, firing shots at the law enforcement team before vanishing into thin air. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during this tense encounter.
Inside the Toyota Yaris, officers uncovered two cellphones and a jammer, adding intrigue to the unfolding events. Swift coordination ensued, with the South African Police Service (SAPS) personnel joining the scene for comprehensive investigations.
Both recovered vehicles were towed to the Tsakane police station, marking a pivotal step towards resolving these cases. The imminent arrests serve as a testament to the effectiveness and collaboration of law enforcement in ensuring the safety of our communities.
