EMPD urges swift renewal for driver’s licenses

Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD and Licensing Division are urging motorists to promptly retrieve their renewed driver’s licenses to avoid complications.

Under Regulation 108 (4), applicants must retrieve their license cards within 120 days. Failure to do so will result in the Driving Licence Testing Centres (DLTC) defacing all unclaimed licenses.

Lerato Monyane, EMPD media liaison officer, highlighted the challenges faced by DLTCs in storing thousands of unclaimed cards.

“We urge applicants to collect their cards from the DLTC where they applied within four to six weeks. After 120 days, unclaimed cards will be defaced, and eNaTIS updated accordingly.

“Failure to retrieve the license within the stipulated timeframe will necessitate reapplication and payment, said Monyane.

To avoid this inconvenience, Monyane emphasized the importance of adhering to the 120-day retrieval period as mandated by legislation.
