In a dedicated effort to enhance road safety awareness, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department’s (EMPD) Social Crime Prevention Unit (SCPU) Officers embarked on a compelling initiative.
On a vibrant Monday morning, from 08:00 to 13:00, they ignited road safety conversations in the heart of the Mayfield and Emlotheni informal settlements, nestled within the bustling areas of Daveyton and Watville.
This relentless endeavor forms part of an expansive and ongoing road safety awareness campaign unfurling across the City of Ekurhuleni (CoE). At the Mayfield settlement in Daveyton, officers educated the community on the importance of comprehending and adhering to road traffic signals—commonly referred to as ‘Robots.’ The research underscores many individuals still grappling with understanding these signals and enacting appropriate actions, highlighting the critical need for community education.
Simultaneously, within the Emlotheni informal settlement, officers engaged the public on the effective utilization of sidewalks and pedestrian crossings. This interactive session emphasized the importance of navigating these pedestrian pathways safely.
Moreover, a concerted effort was dedicated to elucidating the correct protocols to follow when encountering a stop sign.
This road safety crusade spearheaded by the EMPD will unfold across the city, aiming to translate knowledge into vigilant practice among road users.
The EMPD earnestly urges the public to warmly welcome and engage with officers during these awareness campaigns, as shared information fosters safer road behaviours.
As these initiatives persist, the empowerment of Daveyton and Watville communities takes precedence. The drive to instil a culture of caution and responsibility on the roads remains an ongoing mission, and the EMPD stands ready to guide and support citizens toward a safer journey ahead.
