Executive mayor & MMCs visit Daveyton

The Executive Mayor, Cllr Sivuyile Ngodwana, together with his team of MMCs visited various areas in Daveyton township. This was to assess the state of service delivery as part of the ‘People’s Government at Work – Masisebenzeni outreach program’. The monitoring visit aims to identify areas of intervention and address any service delivery concerns raised by residents.

Upon arrival, the Executive Mayor and his team toured the newly renovated Daveyton Customer Care Centre (CCC) which is now operational. The CCC now boasts of a more modern and user-friendly facility for the community to enjoy.

This was followed by a walkabout at the newly constructed N12 off-ramp. It is expected traffic flow will improve due to this and provide easier access to the township. Executive Mayor Ngodwana expressed his satisfaction with the progress made on the project which is due to be completed during the current financial year.

During the visit to the vandalised Sinaba stadium, the executives found illegal dumping on the premises. The Mayor called on the community to play their part in protecting public infrastructure and refrain from illegal dumping. “The municipality is determined to provide basic services to its citizens, but the community remains the responsibility for safeguarding them and ensuring they are in good condition for their use”, emphasised Executive Mayor.

Due to reported water pressure issues in the area, the Etwatwa Water Reservoir was visited to assess progress made in improving the water supply to residents in Daveyton and Etwatwa. Construction of a pump station is now complete and this will help boost water pressure and ensure reliable water supply to communities.

Other areas visited on the day were the cleaning and reconstruction of the stormwater drainage system in Mayfield. The executives also joined the Green Army team to clean up illegal dumping spots in Daveyton Extension 2.

To conclude the programme on Friday, the executives met with various stakeholders at Victor Ndlazilwane Community Hall in Daveyton regarding matters identified. Community members were also offered an opportunity to raise concerns about their community. The executives have sounded their commitment to work closely with community leaders to improve service delivery in their area speedily.
