A man, allegedly pretending to be a police officer, was apprehended in a sting operation in Dawn Park.
On the 13th of January 2024, SAPS and Crime Prevention Wardens conducted a sting operation following a complaint from community members. The valuable information shared by the community resulted in a swift response from the police.
Responding promptly, SAPS and Crime Prevention Wardens approached the suspect based on the provided description. Upon searching him and his vehicle, they discovered a Gauteng traffic police uniform, a pocketbook, and a name tag.
The supposed imposter, aged 42, was arrested on Galahad Road in Dawn Park.
The man was taken into custody, and preliminary investigations revealed that he was not employed by community safety, as he had claimed.
The Warrant Officer in charge of the shift charged the suspect with “impersonating a police officer” and “being in possession of the state uniform.”
Warrant Officer Madonsela emphasized, “Impersonating a police officer is a serious crime.”
