Female officers together with EMPD female colleagues held a roadblock on the 12 of August to stop crime and corruption in Tsakane.
Captain Nkabinde from Tsakane SAPS said that women’s month is an opportunity to celebrate and reflect on women’s achievements, as well as the problems they have faced throughout the years.“Back then black South African women were treated as objects but I believe we are more than objects. It excites me to see women from all different spheres or managements being led by a woman since the city manager became in charge. This has also empowered us as women to work harder and to start believing in ourselves more because we as women are strong, intelligent, smart and priceless. We are capable of doing anything if we stand together and build each other to do better,” Captain Nkambule expressed.
Since the roadblock took place no weapons, drunk drivers or firearms were found but the police officers and EMPD hope that the community members will comply with the law while respecting the rules of the roads.
Ekurhuleni news spoke to one of the community members Sizakele Mthethwa at Ekhaya Shopping Centre who said, “Women’s month is important because the struggle for an ordinary woman in South Africa today has become more complex. Gender-based violence continues to torment society and it won’t stop during women’s month and that’s unlikely to change unless occasions like women’s day start having real meaning in the psyche of ordinary South Africans. I am happy to see women taking control in stopping crime and corruption, while they are being celebrated and this should not only be done on the month of August but be done even in January,” concluded Sizakele.
