FF Plus puts pressure on Gauteng government

FF Plus puts pressure on the Gauteng government to pay children’s homes subsidies

The FF Plus has asked, in writing, the Gauteng MEC for Social Development, Mbali Hlope, to explain why the Department has not paid any subsidies to two well-known children’s homes in Pretoria since October this year.

Due to the Department’s failure to pay the subsidies on time, if at all, the Jakaranda and Louis Botha Children’s Homes in Pretoria were unable to fulfil their financial obligations and are now mainly relying on donations from the community.

These two children’s homes qualify for two six-monthly subsidy payments: one in April and one in October.

The last payments were received in May this year. According to the children’s homes, the subsidy payments are always late.

The two homes accommodate about 334 children between the ages of three and eighteen.

Government subsidies cover about half of the children’s homes’ expenses, so they rely on private donations to cover the rest.

The FF Plus will keep putting pressure on the Department and MEC to ensure that the subsidies are paid over to the children’s homes as soon as possible.

This once again serves as proof that the ANC-controlled Gauteng government does not have the best interests of these vulnerable children at heart.

Gauteng deserves better than the ANC.
