Gauteng boosts safety with 3000 traffic wardens

The Gauteng Provincial Government is happy to welcome a new group of traffic wardens who will help the police across the province.

MEC for Community Safety, Faith Mazibuko, said that the Gauteng Traffic Wardens will boost the efforts of law enforcement officers in Gauteng to fight crime, corruption, and vandalism.

She spoke at a ceremony at Dunnottar Military Base in Ekurhuleni, where she congratulated the wardens for completing tough training and gave them certificates and trophies.

Similar parades were held at training bases in Nigel, Kimberly, and Potchefstroom.

Gauteng Premier, Panyaza Lesufi, also attended the event in Ekurhuleni. He encouraged the new traffic wardens to follow the law and be professional all the time.

Lesufi said, “Today, we’re adding 3000 new wardens to our streets and neighborhoods, especially in colored communities. We want to fight crime and create jobs for our youth.”

He added, “I pay you well so you shouldn’t take bribes or break the law while wearing your uniform.”

The training of these new wardens was done with the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) and other law enforcement agencies.

MEC Mazibuko said the new recruits will be under SANDF’s command but also under the supervision of Gauteng Traffic Police.

“You’re not alone. You must obey your supervisors and use the state cars for work purposes only,” she said.
