The National Handball Federation will be hosting the National Junior Youth Champs in Nelson Mandela Bay from the 1st of October till the 4th of October 2021.
The Gauteng Handball team is compromises of four teams for different regions in Gauteng namely: Ekurhuleni (Daveyton), Pretoria, Soweto and Krugersdorp, they have been selected to participate in the tournament. The team has U-18 girls and U-19 boys.
The newly-elected Chairperson of the Gauteng Handball Association, Reginald Nsizwa Mahlangu pleas with the community to assist the team with donations that will cover accommodation and food for the trip.
“We have approached the Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts&Culture and Recreation to sponsor the whole trip but they have only agreed to assist us with transport, so currently we don’t have money for accommodation and food,” said Mahlangu. He further explained that Handball is still under development in South Africa, hence it will be difficult for them to get sponsors. Mahlangu is determined that the team is definitely going to win and with the powerful beings they have in the team, they are going to make Gauteng proud.
A supportive parent Lesiba Sekele is excited and proud of her two daughters that are part of this beautiful adventure.
“I had no clue what kind of sport is handball, my daughters introduced me to this sport and I started following it and eventually I fell in love with the sport. I am grateful for the opportunity like this that intends to help the youth by sharpening their skills,” said Sekele
He added that parents should look more into the abilities of their children and support them. He is with no doubt that the team is talented and deserves all the support they need to keep going.Mologadi Sekele (16) who is the keeper of the team is looking forward to playing in the National Junior Youth Champs and believes that her team is strong and they are all dedicated.
“I would like to see the team achieving its goal and I am hopeful that we will raise the flag and make our coaches and parents proud.”
