As part of celebrating South African Library Week, the Kwa Thema library embarked on a campaign to teach elderly people from the area how to use their smartphones.
A campaign called Gogo’s Go Online began on Thursday, 17 March 2022 at the Kwa Thema Library and will now be a regular practice for senior citizens in the area where they’ll be using their gadgets with the City’s WIFI.
It is said that the initiative was triggered by complaints received from senior citizens about their families not having patience or time to help them with their smartphones.
‘’This is a great initiative by our Kwa Thema library staff and cadets. We are excited to be helping our senior citizens in using their smartphones, and this is the first of its kind’’ said Karin Muller, Head of Libraries, and Information Services.
The library staff started their classes with a small group of senior citizens who have smartphones and never used WhatsApp before to teach them about the basics of using the App.
For more information about this initiative, the community of Kwa Thema may contact their library or email them at info.libraries@ekurhuleni.gov.za.
