The Khanyisile Community Projects that are based in Leondale was established by Pinkie Jamjam who revealed that she grew up without much.
Jamjam remembers the time she used her socks as sanitary pads and how she would stay in toxic relationships because of her poor living condition. Jamjam spoke to Ekurhuleni News, saying that “I made a promise to myself that no women would have to experience what I went through. I started donating sanitary towels to teenagers, I’ve managed to rescue a number of girls through my Dignity packs Campaigns. As KCP we are helping the youth by providing career guidance to them so that they can make informed career decisions. We are also making an effort to combat crime by encouraging young people to be involved in music, dance, acting and sport.”
The Khanysile Community Project has recently introduced a programme of “manifesting self” through Yoga and Meditation, and the main purpose of the programme is to give tools to young people to tackle life challenges differently. Young people do go through a lot of challenges, however; Jamjam’s aim is to teach young people to be able to deal with those challenges than creating more on top of the existing ones. Jamjam adds “We do vision boards so we can be able to identify their goals and be able to assist them with their career choices. Career guidance is important to young people because it helps them to make correct choices for their lives.
Due to this pandemic, we had to expand our services because most people lost their breadwinners while others lost their jobs. Families were forced to go to bed with empty stomachs so now we also provide food parcels. It’s not easy to run all of this without any funding or sponsorship that’s why we are pleading for donations for Yoga mats, vision boards, stationery, sanitary pads and everything that we can use will be much appreciated,” Jamjam expressed.
