On Saturday, the 20th of January 2024, KM Academics hosted an award ceremony for their students at Masithwalisane Secondary School.
The ceremony aimed to honour the students and recognize their hard work throughout the 2023 academic year.
Guided by their 5Rs, KM Academics is committed to ensuring that no learner is left behind, striving to make a positive contribution to the education space.
A team member from the organization explained the meaning behind the 5R’s principle.
“We firmly believe in the 5 R principle. The 5 R principle stands for Recruit correctly, so every year we go out and recruit learners to our program. After that, we implement the second R, which is to Restore the culture of learning to our learners,”
“We also restore the culture of teaching to our teaching staff. The third R is Recognition. We recognize the efforts, sacrifices, and commitment shown by the learners throughout the year. They were committed and had to sacrifice their time from grade 8 to 12.”
Based on their principle and model, they assert that after recruiting and restoring the culture of learning, it is crucial to recognize the efforts and sacrifices made.
“The journey was not easy, so that is the purpose of today. The fourth R of our model is that we need to Reward excellence. After our learners have committed and achieved, we need to reward them. Today, we will be rewarding them by handing out awards and certificates.”
“We have invited partners from other institutions such as Telkom, Old Mutual, and Standard Bank, among others, who are already present. So, from our partners, let us reward the excellence of our learners across all grades. The 5th R is that we need to Retain our learners in our system. With this, we simply say that even after they finish matric, they are still part of the family. We retain and maintain the relationship until they are ready to face the outside world,” they added.
KM Academics believes that everyone is capable.
“So, we are saying as people from the same community with different expertise, how can we work together with the Department of Education to improve the quality of results of our learners? To withdraw our learners from the streets and keep them engaged as they pursue their education. So, that is one of our objectives as KM Academics.”
They continued to say they have seen a significant improvement in results as the Grade 12 results were announced last week.
“We noted an equal contribution from each and every one of us. Parents have a role to play, the community, and also teachers.
“So, if we can stand together, there is no way our learners cannot achieve. Through education, we thrive. So, let us all make sure that we believe in our learners, let us create all the platforms that will enable them to shine,” they said.
“As KM Academics, we say, “Come and learn at your pace and explore other expertise,” they concluded.
