The City of Ekurhuleni has the regrettable task of informing the public about the temporary closure of the Langaville Library. This unfortunate decision has been made in response to recent heavy rains that have caused structural damage to the facility, leading to the collapse of the ceiling and roof.
City spokesman Zweli Dlamini explains the situation, stating, “We have already received a quote of R3.9 million to address all the structural damage to the library. We have initiated an insurance claim, and once approved, repair work will commence.”
The safety of our patrons and staff is of utmost importance, and therefore, the decision to close the library was taken after it was determined that it had become unsafe for use.
For patrons who may still have library materials checked out, the city offers a convenient solution. “Books can be dropped off at any of our other libraries throughout the city, and we encourage members of the public to take advantage of this option,” Dlamini adds.
The City understands the importance of libraries, especially during this crucial academic period, and encourages Langaville Library patrons, particularly learners, to make use of nearby libraries to aid in their preparations for upcoming examinations.
