Kuzimisela Primary school in Daveyton was graced by the presence of the Mayfield Square management team bearing school book covers, caps, and key holders for the school on Wednesday, 19 January 2022.
The team donated school book covers for the children and offered a free book covering service from 10:00 am till 1:30 pm.
Mayfield Square’s five days Back to School campaign started on Monday 17, January 2022 and it will run until Friday, 21 January 2022.
The marketing manager of Mayfield Square, Douglas Mkhonto explained that the Back to School programme was initiated because they have realised that there are kids around the area who do not have the resources to buy simple things as book covers.“We are well aware of the major issues of children not having school shoes but even small things such as book cover it is a problem. So because we value the education of a black child we decided to close the gap of criticism that is happening in the schools whereby you find other kids being made fun of because their school books are not being covered,” said Mkhonto.
He mentioned that the initiative was to give back to the children in the community and to make sure that they are covered in all aspects.
Mkhonto further said it is their responsibility to take care of the community because Mayfield’s square’s existence is based on the people. They are who they are because of the people.“We take education seriously because we believe that it changes lives, hence we decided to invest in it by donating the school book covers to those learners that cannot afford and also to those who can because no one is better than the other,” he added.
The deputy principal of the school, Mam Mashabela was excited for their school to be part of Mayfield Square’s initiative. She was overwhelmed by the love they have received from the management of the mall.
