The Member of Mayoral Committee for Community Safety, Cllr Phaladi Mmoko has noted the video that went viral on social media showing the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) removing a wall fence outside a property in Vosloorus. MMC Mmoko has emphasised the importance of businesses and residents complying with the City’s by-laws in relation to their conduct and erecting structures on their properties.
“The By-law enforcement operation carried out in Vosloorus on Sunday, 25 April 2021 was part of our daily operations as the EMPD to ensure compliance. This follows numerous complaints laid by the community regarding the establishment and engagement with the property owner,” the MMC for Community Safety Cllr Phaladi Mmoko said.
Community members in Vosloorus had drafted a petition which was presented to the Gauteng Provincial Legislature.
Amongst the concerns noted in the petition were noise pollution, encroaching on municipal servitude and erecting a structure on a side that obstructed pedestrian walking on the safe side of the road.
MMC Mmoko urged residents to refrain from building structures which are prohibited and infringe on municipal by-laws.
“We are happy that the community of Vosloorus took up the role of active citizenship by raising their concerns to the authorities,” he said.
Residents who wish to make any structural changes to their properties are advised to present their plans to the City Planning offices available at their nearest Customer Care Centres, to ensure that their plans are in line with the municipal regulations.
