The Multi-Party coalition in the City of Ekurhuleni, welcomes the conviction and sentencing of Bhekisisa Dlamini, an illegal miner who shot dead Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) officer Johannes Jacobus van der Linde in June last year.
The incident occurred when EPMD officers were conducting a raid at an illegal mine in Germiston and were attacked by four illegal miners.
“We welcome the sentencing of Bhekisisa Dlamini. Justice has been served for the family and loved ones of Officer Johannes van der Linde. We believe that this will send a strong message that illegal mining will not be tolerated in Ekurhuleni. We urge people to report such activities to the police for intervention” said, Executive Mayor, Tania Campbell.
