Non-profit company focuses on empowering women

Nontsikelelo Pontshi is a 35-year-old from Daveyton who created a non-profit company called ‘Womenbeyou Mosadi Phila’ which focuses on empowering and motivating local women to believe in themselves in order to improve their lives.

The company is currently in the process of getting a car driver that will transport unemployed women to do short skills development courses. “We are all about women empowerment. We have sent a few women to do a five-week manicure course and some of them even have businesses now. As a country, we are facing a very high rate of unemployment and I believe we can try to change that, especially us women. We need to help each other by motivating and building each other as a solution to this crisis we are facing as a people in South Africa. We, therefore, host motivational outings where women sit down, talk and get motivated on how they should face the difficult parts of life. We encourage women to believe in themselves as well as their potential,” added Pontshi. She also mentioned women who are significant to the initiative like Thembi Nkosi, who has been part of the Womenbeyou Mosadi Phila, who currently has her own NGO based in Benoni, Cloverdene. Another woman who has also played a role in the success of the initiative is Zanele Chigo, who is an auxiliary social worker. “There are so many women who contribute to this non-profit organisation being a success. There are so many names to mention but I thank them all, even my partners. All these women are great and are very important,” expressed Pontshi.

She mentions that the aim of the initiative is to also remind ladies that they are appreciated, they matter and they are loved. Pontshi added to say that they have a car wash drive that was initially supposed to take place on the 3rd of July, however, because of the lockdown restrictions and the president’s announcement that the country will be back to level 4, the car wash drive is postponed until further notice.

For women interested in joining this initiative, they can search for ‘Womenbeyou Mosadi Phila’ on Facebook and Instagram, or WhatsApp on the number 062 377 2699 as it is more active.
