Celebrating their new home at Thabong in Daveyton, #Black Child It’s Possible launched its sewing training program aimed at teaching basic sewing techniques and skills on Wednesday, 16 February.
The programme was used as a curtain-raiser and marked the new opening of their new centre.
“Our biggest goal is to see the centre becoming a lighthouse for the community. We aim to have a variety of skills developments programmes for the youth, women, and men of all ages,” said Elsie Mkhwanazi founder of the NPO.
As an organisation that strives to respond to various social challenges that are affecting vulnerable women and young girls, #Black Child It’s Possible provides pieces of advice and referrals for victims and survivors of Gender-Based Violence. They offer their support through economic empowerment and social response programs.
Mkhwanazi further said the programme also empowers women so that they can have self-sufficiency, be able to meet all daily social challenges, and be economically productive.
The NPO currently feeds the community through its Soup Kitchen. Another initiative that was established by #Black Child It’s Possible is to use the centre as a drop point for clothes that will be donated to the community.
“We are grateful for this project because it gives us skills that can never be taken away from us. We enjoyed ourselves as women and learned a lot from each other,” said Ntombi Mnguni one of the beneficiaries of the programme.
