ActionSA notes the judgement by the South Gauteng High Court upholding the EFF’s right to sing the racially divisive song “Kill the Boer.”
Having reviewed the judgement, and with due respect to the role of our courts and the historical origin of the song, we believe that the protection of any song that calls for violence against any group of South Africans is a price too high to pay for free speech. To that end, we are pleased that this matter has been taken on appeal.
To build an inclusive future for South Africa, we must acknowledge the constitutional rights of all South Africans, and give expression to the principles of tolerance, non-violence and non-racialism on which our country is founded. We do not believe that this song aligns to those principles.
ActionSA condemns, in the strongest terms possible, those who are not committed to building a shared future for South Africa, and instead seek to promote violence and further divide us. We will continue to work to unite the good, hard-working and law-abiding people of South Africa behind our objective to fix our beloved country.
