Passion aligns a young man with his dream

By Matampane Raymond Mokwena

A young anchor and show producer at Galaxy Universal Network divulges that his fixed passion for poetry, public speaking and debating competitions propelled him to reach his dream.

Harmony Mbele seized the opportunity to share how his dream of becoming a presenter unfolded to Ekurhuleni News on 26th of January 2021 saying that: “During my primary school years, from grade 3 up until grade 6 i used to participate passionately in debating, poetry and public speaking competitions, however my passion was further ignited in grade 7 when I was recruited to be part of a play dubbed ‘Disney Prince of New York’ where i took up the lead character.

”He continued disclosing more about his life and he even mentioned that as an individual while you are on your path towards your destiny there are always obstacles, he attested to that by divulging his adversity and tribulation that distressed him right after his primary school years, stating that: “Right after primary school i wanted to go to the National School of the Arts which is located in Johannesburg; unfortunately my father had lost his job at that particular time so he couldn’t pay for my school fees.

“So i started to question myself, trying to make sense of it all, but that significantly aroused doubts in me as an individual, i had lost hope and i thought it was no-longer possible for me to reach my dream, i then enrolled at a public school (Eketsang high school in Katlehong) in that phase i tremendously conquered in the public speaking competitions that i entered,” he disclosed in gladness.

“The glorious phase paved the path for me to meet Nthokozo Mwelase who became my mentor through his organisation, dubbed the ‘Future Shapers’, he played a pivotal role in my life, he linked me up with Urban Brew Studios and the production company facilitated my guest presenting job at YoTV on alternate basis; my first exposure to TV production was during that particular time, i learned a lot, thereafter i was recruited by a casting agency (Zero to Hero) owned by Mike Ndlovu, the agency opened up more doors for me in the entertainment industry, through it i became an extra on ‘Rhythm City’ on e.tv, ‘The Road’ on Mzansi Magic and ‘Those who Can’t’ on SABC 3 and i was later featured on Allen grey, SABC sports and the Fifa World Cup adverts; but i stopped for two(2) years to focus on school,”Mbele extensively shared.

“later on i tried to revive my career as a presenter; i recall going to Johannesburg in a taxi for auditions at Sunny studio in Balfour Park shopping Centre without reasonably knowing the place and i also went to Crown Mines for auditions in a similar fashion but i ended up sleeping in a Police Station in that instance because the auditions ended late. I have been told that I’m not good enough on several occasions, but my passion and desire preceded my tarnished ago as i was told that I’m not good enough.

”“My job at Galaxy Universal Network was simultaneously stimulated by the videos and pictures i posted on instagram, they called me up for an interview after they were impressed by them; i came to their studios in Midrand and i presented insightful information about the topic which was laid out on the table during the interview, the CEO of Galaxy Universal Network, Sisanda Qwabe, was amazed by my articulation; she came to me during the on-set shooting time and assured me that i was hired in the media house, even if i had no qualifications,” Mbele concluded.
