Police burn confiscated looted products

The perishable products that were confiscated from the looters during the unrest and after were burnt to ashes by the SAPS officers in the Vosloorus police precinct on the 6th of August, 2021.

Initially the Vosloorus’ Station Commander, Brigadier, Themba Denge clarified why the perishable products were not donated to welfare centres as he stated when he was interviewed during the law enforcement agencies’ collaboration raid which seized looted items amounting to R250 000 from both hotels that are based in Vosloorus.

“We thought it would be unfair as the SAPS to donate perishable goods to singled-out charity organisations and exclude others, however even our working policy as the SAPS prevents us from acting according to our desires as humans, as we wished to donate these items.

“The valuable furniture that we managed to confiscate is now under the state’s control, so it will be auctioned and the money will be absorbed by the state.

“Other than that we are also showing community members that as police officers we were not confiscating the products for our own selfish motives, we were enforcing what the law of South Africa requires us to do as law enforcers,” Denge alluded
