A woman ( Melanie January) residing in Villa Liza, Boksburg, thanks the constables who helped her when a dispute spiralled out of control between her and her substance abusing son.
The woman who was out of options when the fight erupted thanks all the constables for their intervention. Constable T. Selepe, J. Toka, S.T Mofokeng, K. T Molefe who were rushing off somewhere never hesitated to stop and intervene when they saw a male figure and a woman embroiled in a combat, they managed to stop the heated fight so the woman immensely appreciates what the police officers have done for her, and she expressed herself, saying, “I love my son so much that’s why I understand him, he has always been an aggressive person, but I thought it was just a phase that he was going through, it got worse when he started smoking drugs and all that stuff. “
She adds that she greatly appreciate the help she got from the police officers and believes that change can still be made possible, as long as we all work together.
“We always blame the police that they do not do their job but when they do well we don’t appreciate them and give thanks to them. I had to thank them because they saved my life,“ she added with a sombre face.
She is now requesting the Tswaranang Community Centre to start up a drug campaign that will help the youth to stop using drugs, so that they can start focusing on bettering their lives. She wants doctors who can volunteer to give more information on mental and anti-social health so that parents who are going through similar situations can be able to handle their children and find ways to help them.
“We can’t always put our kids in jail because they will come out and repeat the same things that put them behind bars. It’s sad to see people calling your son a jail bird or a drug user.”
She believes that its starts with the parents to bring about change to the community and the rest of the country. “I urge doctors, police even social workers to come join me on the drug campaign that I’ll be doing to help the youth, and everyone who needs more information on how to deal with his/her kids that are into drugs and struggling with mental health. “
She wants to help everyone who is willing to come to her campaign, so that the community can get more clarity on mental illness and anti-social people.
