Police Seize Stolen Vehicle, Apprehend Suspect

In a swift operation spanning Thursday, January 4th, to Saturday, January 6th, 2024, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Bronberg Precinct Officers, in collaboration with the Tactical Response Unit, apprehended a 45-year-old male suspect involved in a firearm incident. Alongside the arrest, a reported stolen motor vehicle was successfully recovered.

The action unfolded when concerned motorists flagged down EMPD Officers during a routine crime prevention operation. Distressed witnesses reported an erratic driver brandishing a firearm at fellow motorists.

With a detailed description of the suspect’s white Ford Ranger Light Delivery Vehicle (LDV), officers swiftly sprang into action, sensing the urgency of a potential road rage incident.

Their vigilance paid off when they spotted a matching LDV and occupant at the intersection of Putfontien and Vanryn Road. Upon instructing the driver to stop, a thorough search ensued, resulting in the confiscation of a black G19C 9mm toy gun, resembling a firearm.

Subsequently, the suspect was apprehended and taken into custody at the Crystal Park police station. Legal proceedings are set to commence at the Benoni Magistrate’s Court.

The Crystal Park police station, in coordination with the South African Police Service (SAPS), urges any motorists who experienced a similar firearm-related incident in the vicinity on that day to step forward, aiding ongoing investigations.

Meanwhile, the Tactical Unit Officers received intelligence regarding a stolen white Ford Bantam Bakkie from the Springs area. Responding promptly, officers discovered the abandoned vehicle, matching the reported description, at a car wash on Imibala Boulevard in Tsakane’s Langaville.

After confirming its status as stolen, the bakkie was securely transported to the nearest police yard for safekeeping.

This operation stands as a testament to the diligent efforts of law enforcement in swiftly responding to potential threats and recovering stolen property, ensuring safety within our communities.
