Ramaphosa Spotlights Concern Over Severe Impact of Upcoming Budget Cuts

President Cyril Ramaphosa’s address, originally planned to honor the Springbok Rugby team for their remarkable victory at the Rugby World Cup, starkly underlined the President’s deep concern regarding the potential fallout from necessary, substantial budget cuts in the impending Medium-Term Budget Policy Statement (MTBPS) address slated for Wednesday afternoon.

Rather than focusing solely on celebrating the Springboks’ unprecedented triumph, Ramaphosa dedicated a significant portion of his speech to emphasizing the ongoing economic recovery efforts, necessitated by the long-standing damage inflicted by the ruling party over decades.

Ramaphosa made it a point to reassure that the budget reductions in the forthcoming mini-budget wouldn’t impede essential service delivery or poverty alleviation, aiming to preempt any adverse reactions and prepare the South African public for the imminent announcements in Wednesday’s address.

ActionSA reiterates that the immensely challenging financial circumstances the country faces stem from the detrimental legacy that President Ramaphosa and the ruling party are leaving behind. Hence, they shouldn’t endeavor to burden the already overstressed South African populace with the additional weight of the deepening cost-of-living crisis.

Aligned with the policies set forth in our September policy conference, ActionSA firmly believes that stabilizing our economy requires immediate action by fostering competition in the electricity generation and transportation sectors. It also necessitates reversing the erosion of law and order by imposing stricter prison sentences and deploying more law enforcement personnel.

An economy cannot flourish or generate employment opportunities amidst lawlessness, underscoring the urgency for increased funding directed toward law enforcement agencies. Furthermore, re-establishing the Directorate of Special Operations (DSO) is crucial to prosecute corrupt politicians within the ruling party, the very individuals responsible for bringing the nation to its knees.

Three years ago, ActionSA was established with the clear goal of Fixing South Africa and redirecting it towards a path of prosperity. We refuse to allow the ruling party or President Ramaphosa to scapegoat South Africans and further weigh down our people. Instead, we are committed to tirelessly restoring law and order in our communities, fostering economic growth, and creating job opportunities.
