Between Monday, 29 January 2024, and Friday, 02 February 2024, officers from the Social Crime Prevention Unit (SCPU) of the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) focused on Daveyton and Etwatwa. They conducted scholar patrol training and inspected scholar transport vehicles and driver fitness at different schools.
With all schools back in full swing in the City of Ekurhuleni (CoE), EMPD officers carried out awareness campaigns at various primary schools. After investigating, EMPD found that scholar transport and vehicle fitness compliance remained a significant issue. In the Etwatwa area, officers monitored violations at primary schools like Rolihlahla Primary, Mbilase Primary, Gugulesizwe Primary, and Tsipi Noto Primary. These schools benefited from the initiative as officers issued written notices for noncompliance.
Additionally, officers took part in an outreach program at the Daveyton Customer Care Centre (CCC), in collaboration with the Department of Labour, Department of Health, the South African National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (SANCA), and the Department of Home Affairs. The program aimed to engage community members on various social issues affecting the communities.
