CHLOORKOP : (351) Three hundred and fifty-one suspects were put behind bars for various cases within Ekurhuleni Policing precincts over the weekend.
Some of the suspects were arrested after joining High-density Operations were conducted by Saps and other law enforcers in the District including major ones in Tembisa and Dawnpark.
(12) Illegal Shebeens were shut down last night, 6 in Tembisa, 3 in Dawnpark and 3 in Primrose
Suspects were arrested for crimes ranging from murder, business burglary, sexual assault, malicious damage to property, Assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, possession of a Hijacked motor vehicle, reckless and negligent driving, possession of drugs, contempt of court, possession of suspected stolen goods, Warrant of arrest, rape, tempering with essential infrastructure, dealing in Liquor without licences possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunitions, Drunk and driving, Assault related to domestic violence and illegal immigrants
Five (5) unlicensed Firearms were taken off from the streets in Ekurhuleni, two from the Norkempark area wherein one was recovered on Friday night by members who were busy conducting stop and search at Elgin Road, in Bichleigh and another one on Saturday night during operation after members received a tip-off from concerned citizens, the suspect was arrested at his place, One was recovered in Ivory park Extension 7 by Community members in possession of the suspect after committing business robbery, one was recovered in Tokoza area at Serema street during stop and search and a Revolver was found abandoned in Sebenza policing precincts
Ekurhuleni District Commissioner, Major General Anna Sithole applauded the Law enforcers and not forgetting the concerned Community members who are always ready to work together with the Police in order to address the Proliferation of unlicensed firearms and the scourge of substance abuse in the District
All the suspects are Expected to appear in their respective magistrate courts soon to face their charges.
