Sivala ama -pothole campaign in action

Nhlapho section in Katlehong was a hive of activity on Tuesday, 7 September as the city launched a potholes repairs blitz dubbed Sivala ama-pothole. The MMC for Roads and Transport Cllr Andile Mngwevu laid the foundation of the campaign by rolling his sleeves and actively fixing potholes in the area. A budget of R50 million has been set aside for the campaign that will accelerate the patching of potholes and road repairs across the City.

The campaign will also focus on road markings, the installation of traffic signs, and the clearing of stormwater drainage systems. Speaking at the launch MMC Mngwevu encouraged officials to take pride in their work and make it a point that when they see a pothole, they attend to it.

“Today’s launch is a reinforcement of the work you are already doing, as the people’s government. We depend on you to help us accelerate road maintenance. Take pride in the work you do and do it with due diligence because we are all here to serve the residents of Ekurhuleni,” said MMC Mngwevu. Residents are encouraged to report potholes as and when they are exposed to them. Potholes can be reported through the city’s call centre on 0860 543 000, on Twitter @CoE_Call_Centre, or by emailing call.centre@ekurhuleni.gov.za.
