Somakhekhe’s partnership with Savemoor boosts ‘ikhekhe’ shop

A young man from the East Rand in KwaThema who goes by the name of Ayanda Caka well known as “Somakhekhe” has been in the baking industry for six years. Caka started baking in June 2015 after he saved up money to start his own business. He named his business Ikhekhe Shop and it has been operating since. He shared that his mother taught him the basics and thereafter a few people willingly helped him to expand the little knowledge he had about baking.

Caka said to Ekurhuleni News, “I attended my high school at Johan Jurgens High school which is where I was my formally introduced to the hospitality industry in grade 10 in a subject called Hotel keeping and Catering. I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to go to that school because it played a huge role in shaping my career. My journey with Ikhekhe Shop has been a very exciting journey, fun yet so challenging considering the fact that we have been in the business for six years. It has not been an easy journey at all but I am grateful that through the support of our families, friends and customers we have made it this far as a new and young business. Waking up and nurturing a business on a day to day basis has not been an easy task because it is difficult to generate enough income to sustain the business, to hire the right staff, getting consistent formal training and all those things. Till this day we can never reject a helping hand to grow this business. We are overcoming these obstacles by making sure we open every day and trade consistently and persistently with the understanding that we are doing this for a good purpose. “

Food Town Hyper Savemoor based in Brakpan and Ikhekhe Shop has recently formed a partnership. He elaborated further to Ekurhuleni News explaining how they started from being customers to being suppliers, “Savemoor has been a shop that we have bought stock from, from the first day we started till today, we have been loyal to them because of their good prices. We went from being customers to being suppliers for them and we hope it is going to be a good and fruitful relationship going forward. We are more than grateful to have been given the opportunity, as a local business, to do business with big retailers like Savemoor.”

Ikhekhe Shop is now selling cake to a bigger and better market through the opportunity which was given by Food Town Hyper Savemoor.

“We will use it to be more visible and introduce our cakes to more people. We are also hoping and planning for more growth as a business in the next few years. I personally encourage people to follow their dreams fearlessly and be willing to work hard if not harder than the next person,” Caka concludes.
