There’s art in making cocktails

Aiming to end the stigma of people thinking that cocktails are only for females, Siphiwe Ngcobo who is 39 years old bartender from Etwatwa Daveyton started bartending in 2004 and goes by the name of Pharaoh when he’s behind the bar.

Working as a beverage controller Siphiwe was introduced to cocktails competitions in 2014 and so far has participated in World Class Competition, Patron Competition, Remy’s Martin Cocktail Competition, and many more.

What intrigues him about cocktails is the different styles of cocktails, the art of making cocktails, or presentation. He often uses African flavours and ingredients, currently, he’s introducing sour cocktails.

Siphiwe Ngcobo said, “People think cocktails have to be sweet and colourful, they also think that cocktails are only for females which is not true, men also drink cocktails it only depends on which base spirit one prefers. “

He’s introducing food and cocktail pairing. He does private events, parties, and weddings, and also does consultations and staff training on food and beverages.

Dedication and passion keep him aiming and working hard as working in the hospital industry that demands his time at night and on weekends. Siphiwe plans to open an upmarket cocktail bar in Ekurhuleni to groom more bartenders.
