Three suspects were arrested for the murder of a 32 year old male from Saint Petersburg on the 23rd of February 2021. The deceased’s brother alleges that he and the deceased were visiting a relative in Tsakane extension five when they all decided to go to Bahama Bar in KwaThema.
After spending some time at Bahama, they decided to head back to Tsakane.
The deceased’s brother alleges that a fight broke out outside the gate of Bahama between the deceased and a number of other males. Shortly after, a red vehicle stopped and the deceased was put inside the vehicle which subsequently drove off with the deceased.
At about 01:18, KwaThema police were tipped-off about a fight along Mashiqhila Street in extension 6 KwaThema and they responded swiftly. On arrival at the scene, police Constable Phogole and Constable Mathebula found the deceased laying in a pool of his own blood.
The two Constables found the deceased’s brother who explained to them that his brother had been in a fight and was taken from Bahama by a red vehicle and he doesn’t know what happened there before he found his brother lying in the street bleeding.An ambulance was called out to the scene and the deceased was declared dead by paramedics. The suspected assailants later went to KwaThema police station to open a case of assault against the deceased only to find out that the suspect had passed on. The Trio were then informed that a case of murder has been opened for investigation and they were arrested as suspects in the matter and they are to appear in front of the Magistrate’s court soon.The matter is still under investigation.
KwaThema station Commander Colonel Mareketle Thobejane commended the swift action taken by KwaThema police and the serious and violent crimes unit based in Tsakane.
She further condemned the actions of the three young men which led to a loss of a life. She also stated that community members should think twice before committing acts of assault or violence as one can find himself/ herself on the wrong side of the law.
