On Tuesday 24 May 2022 in the Benoni area, the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) Tracing Unit Officers, arrested two (2) male suspects and suspected stolen goods, were uncovered.
Just after 7-AM during the crime prevention operation, the eye-hawked Officers approached a suspicious Gold Toyota Fortuner, parked by the well-known filling station. Two (2) male occupants spotted on the Special Utility Vehicle (SUV), looked uneasy when the Metro Police vehicle advanced.
The motor vehicle was cornered and searched, before the pair, who are 23 and 25-years of age, were handcuffed after Officers uncovered a large number of copper cables, occupying the boot and rear passenger seats. The duo, failed to account for or produce any invoice, pertaining to the suspicious goods before they were taken to the Benoni police station.
The charge of ‘possession of suspected stolen property’s was registered and the SUV used in transporting the alleged loot was also impounded. The detained twosome is expected to appear in the Benoni Magistrate’s Court soon.
