Between 16 Oct and 17 Oct in Benoni area, the EMPD Anti-Cable Theft, Equestrian Unit Members, CoE Energy department Technicians and other Law Enforcers, salvaged illegally connected electrical cables and two (2) suspects found with alleged imitation goods, were arrested during the crime prevention operations.On Friday between 08:00 and 14h00 in Benoni area, at the corner of Apex and Mainreef, the EMPD Anti-Cable Theft Unit Squad, CoE Energy department Technicians and other Law Enforcers made a turn at Msholozi informal settlement following numerous complaints from members of the community nearby about the forever tripping power grid. Illegally connected two thousand six hundred and seventy six coma sixty three meters (2676, 63 m) of aluminum electrical wire supplying the informal settlement valued at R32775 was retrieved from lampposts, mini-substations and ditches, during the operation. Recovered cables were transported to Benburg substation for safekeeping. This is an ongoing operation.
On 17 Oct at 07:50 in Petit area during the crime prevention operation, the EMPD Equestrian Unit Members arrested a couple and items were uncovered.During tactical patrols, the crime fighting Team noticed a suspicious white Ford panelvan driven by a 29-year old documented Chinese national exiting a plot on Meerkat road. A stop and search was conducted where Officers requested appropriate documents for transported items found on the panelvan. Sealed packages of shoe polish, variety of roll-ons, baking powders, dry yeast and facial creams to mention a few, they were uncovered from a well-mannered driver he even volunteered to show us the rest of merchandises inside the plot. Officers found more ready to be packaged groceries, empty branded containers, 3X imported seal, engrave, package and products transfer machines, detergents, hygiene’s and cosmetics. The 33-year old female undocumented Zimbabwean occupant found sorting out suspected counterfeit goods was handcuffed along with the Chinese national. The Health department with Anti-Counterfeit Specialists were summoned on site.The duo facing charges of possession and possible dealing in counterfeit goods was escorted to Crystal Park police station. Charges under the migrations Act were added to the detained Zimbabwean lady and they are both expected to appear at the Benoni Magistrate’s Court soon
