Why city keeps supplying services to hijacked buildings

ActionSA has, through the City of Ekurhuleni Council, submitted questions to the ANC-EFF coalition as to why hijacked buildings have continued to receive services from the city despite the council adopting a motion last year that these buildings would be disconnected.

As a party that values the rule of law, ActionSA believes that the hijackers of buildings in Ekurhuleni should not benefit from municipal services such as water, electricity and refuse removal.

We therefore believe these buildings should urgently be disconnected, as a part of a process to recover these buildings and hand them back to their rightful owners and restore the rule of law in the City of Ekurhuleni.

ActionSA seeks immediate responses from the ANC-EFF Members of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) about the circumstances that led to these buildings still receiving services, and why they have not been disconnected.

ActionSA remains the only political party in the City of Ekurhuleni that continues to fight for law-abiding South Africans who have lost access to the buildings they rightfully own. In August 2022, ActionSA successfully passed the ‘Retaking Hijacked Buildings’ motion in the council, but there has been a lack of political will to seriously begin tackling the issue of illegal occupancy in Ekurhuleni.

ActionSA has also helped to ensure accountability for the hijackers of buildings in Ekurhuleni, recently helping to get undocumented Nigerian foreign national, Tony Kadzadi arrested for hijacking a building in Primrose.

ActionSA believes the proliferation of illegally occupied buildings undermines the rule of law, creating a breeding ground for criminal activities and undermining public trust in the justice system. We will therefore continue to lobby the City of Ekurhuleni to take action in this regard.
