The community of Tsakane shared their true feelings about the elections that took place on the 1st of November 2021. While others voted for new councillors in expectations to see change, some claimed that voting is a waste of time as nothing has ever changed in their communities since the last elections.
President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that the 1st of November 2021 is a holiday, allowing South African citizens to take time off their busy schedule to go and vote for the 2021 Municipal elections. The youth of Tsakane claimed that they want to see change and they would like certain councillors who belong to the ruling party to be removed as they do not deliver. “Our councillor has not done much for us in this ward, we want him out. All these ANC people chow money and forget about us when they’re occupying high positions in the state and it’s not fair. Whenever they are elections they start promising us sweet things and we are tired of it. There is no service delivery here, our councillor does not interact with us and it’s unfortunate that we address such matters but we’re never taken seriously. We need young people with fresh minds so that they can understand all the challenges the youth faces. This corruption initiated by the ANC councillors is wrong. It needs to end,” said Dumisani Mfene.
Moreover, some youth shared their thoughts on how the elections went and how they are satisfied with their current councillors. Masego Letswalo shares that even though her vote is her secret, but she is happy to be given the freedom to vote for a council she wants. “I’m quite happy how everything went. I’m happy how the IEC encouraged people to register to vote online, especially with this coronavirus in our midst. I’m happy with our councillor, I think that she has worked hard and I believe she should be given a chance to be a councillor again. She’s there for the community and does her part. There’s always room for improvement but so far, I’m happy with our ward councillor and I’m confident that she’ll win again. I can’t wait to get the results,” Letswalo disclosed.
