On 22 and 23 of September 2020 in Boksburg area, various EMPD Units, SAPS, CoE Energy and two (2) private Security companies conducted an operation regarding illegally installed electricity cables in Delmore Park, Jerusalem and Angelo, the mini-sub stations where connected with illegitimate copper cables and forged pylons which were removed.Wit Deep road between Commissioner and Main Reef, including Main Reef road between Pretoria and Homestead, flow of traffic was closed from 08:00 to 16h00 on the 22 of September2020, during the operation.
However residents who seemed not pleased about the disconnection threw stones and foreign objects at Members and luckily no casualties were reported. Whilst busy, some EMPD Public Order Policing Unit Members had to respond to an emergency at the corner of Old Elsburg and Commissioner (Reiger Park area) where passing by motor vehicles were pelted with stones by a group of people before three (3) females and male suspects between the ages of 25 and 42, were caught red handed and handcuffed.On the 23rd of September 2020 the operation continued with manageable hiccups between 09:00 and 12h00. First Respond and Public Order Policing Units responded to an alert where by trucks were being looted and passing by motor vehicles were also pelted with stones on Wit Deep road. The EMPD Teams trained in crowd management and house penetration amongst others, moved in and managed to apprehend four (4) male suspects between the ages of 23 and 43.The arrested seven (7) facing charges of public violence with malicious damage to property were escorted to Reiger Park and Boksburg north police stations. They will appear in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court soon.For now, motorists are advised to be cautious when driving around in mentioned areas. Together with other Law Enforcers, we will continue to patrol and monitor the affected zones
