Kaecy releases a sound that calls out to your attention. His newly released song titled ‘Lie to me’ was released on the 12th. The 35 year old soul and Rnb singer Kaecy, whose real name is Kgothatsao Sethole plans to push boundaries of Rnb and soul as he marks 10 years in the music industry.
The South African singer, songwriter, performer and recording artist from Mamelodi, east of Pretoria has been living a musician’s life since birth. As a man who comes from a family of singers, it fueled his inspiration to pursue music at an early age. Finding a stage at the age of 10, Kaecy excelled as a performer and began to develop his craft as a singer and writer.
In September 2007, he was appointed as a choir conductor for Rhodes University’s Voice of Glory Choir and under him, the choir performed in places like the Great Hall at Wits University and most notably at the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown.
Upon his return to Pretoria in 2009, Kaecy began working as a background vocalist for artists such as Hassan Green (US), Bongi & Collin (SAMA and Crown Gospel Award winners), Letang and Percy Mthunzi among many others, both in studio as a session artist as well as on stage for performances. In 2014, he ventured out as a solo artist with his first-ever concert titled ‘So Beautiful’ which was held on the 11th of October 2014 in Pretoria.
This is where he received resounding praise for his songwriting, vocal delivery and an all-round finessed command on stage. “I then released my debut album titled ‘So Beautiful’ on the 6th of October 2017, aptly titled after the concert that launched my solo career,” said Kaecy.
He has also been featured on Afro Café as well as on Gospel Classics which both aired on SABC 2. Kaecy toured relentlessly, constantly refining every aspect of his craft with legacy always in the forefront of his purpose. He has had the honour of performing at various notable venues across the country, including the South African State Theatre, The Johannesburg Theater, the Javett Art Centre and the 2022 National Arts Festival (Fringe Program) in Makhanda (Grahamstown), Eastern Cape.”I’m also a Mandela Washington Fellow (2023) and Alumni. While on the fellowship, I collaborated with other African artists on a song called Mandela’s Vision, contributing to songwriting, arranging and singing,” he explained. The song was selected to be performed at the closing ceremony of the Mandela Washington Fellowship Summit, which took place in August 2023, in Washington DC. All his songs are available on leading digital platforms.
