On Friday, 16 August 2024, The Social Crime Prevention Co-ordinator, Sergeant Nonathamsanqa Nkonkoane, together with Sector Manager for Sector 4, Sergeant Lilian Makeke, Community Police Forum (CPF) members led by their Chairperson Mr Richard Sithole, and Gender Base Violence (GBV) joined forces with the local non-profit organization, Sinethemba Kuzolunga to raise awareness on the dangers of drugs and substance abuse.
Seeing that social factors such as unemployment, family disputes, inequality, and crime are riff and contribute to social ills, both private and public sectors are trying to find ways to work together in addressing these challenges which will also ease pressure on Police in the fight against crime.
“Most of the drug addicts are willing to go to rehabilitation centers and get the much-needed help, but the question remains: What, then after?”
“Some even confessed to saying they can’t live without being intoxicated for obvious reasons that the society they live in still has the same challenges that they are trying to swallow by consuming drugs and other substances”.
In closing Police, pleaded with leaders who are the members of society to join hands and root out all those who live within the communities and sell drugs to the future generation (youth). Drug dealers must not be protected. Instead, they must be pointed out to the Police so that they can be arrested and prosecuted.
