The BoxShop Digital Hub, in Douglas Montseng Drive, Vosloorus, saw the launch of the first Kusho Bani Kasi Business Consumer Financial Education (CFE) Session on 29 May 2025. The sessyion was hosted by Kapelo Communications in collaboration with financial services provider Santam, Sanlam, and Kasi Connect Online – an online platform that connects kasi business to the mainstream economy. The event was a full day’s program & networking facilitated by financial industry experts on how to help entrepreneurs stay afloat in times of uncertainty through robust financial solutions like business insurance, policies and legacy buffers such as wills.
Boipelo Montsho, Marketing Manager of Kapelo Communications, said that events like these were meant to buoy up the township economy and speak to its people so as to uplift existing and emerging
SMMEs and ensure that they are capacitated to thrive and succeed in their respective areas of specialisation, especially as the township economy sector is still made up of numerous unknowns that are yet to be mined through research. “Our mandate is to seek out change makers within townships and rural areas we can collaborate with in order to bring the information to the grassroots. We’ve realised there’s a lack of strategy coming into townships and that is what we are addressing.” she said.
Montsho added that it was the need to make sure that businesses understand the benefits and risk of not having insurance that drove the “Kusho Bani” kasi business CFE sessions. She further said the sessions are there to help equip businesses with the integrated knowledge from marketing, business coaching ,and financial know-how perspective. “We want to have bilateral conversations with leaders,and not top-down conversations.”
The Box Shop Digital Hub Founder, Sifiso Moyo, highlighted that the jam packed program of the event – full of expert knowledge and information – was intended to raise the bar for entrepreneurs and their awareness during operations “because if you don’t understand yourself and where you’re going you are going to end-up being stuck.”
Moyo asserted that the financial consumer education session which first launched in Vosloorus will be a road-show of note that will also move to greater parts of Ekurhuleni such as Kwa-Thema, Thembisa, as well as other townships within the Gauteng province.
“Outside the core importance of consumer financial education, events such as these are an opportunity for businesses to reflect. I would like to encourage everyone who is a business when they see the invites, that they rsvp, attend and come get to hear the for themselves” from the well of expert knowledge, he said.
Everyone at this session also received the book “The Disruptors 2 : How Social Entrepreneurs Lead and Manage Disruption” produced by the Gordon’s Institute of Business Science.
The Kusho Bani CFE sessions, is a road show that is set to also move to areas such as Kwa-Thema, Thembisa, as well as other Townships across Gauteng where people will get guided on financial savvy tips and tricks.
